Ecological Sustainable Development

Tasman Access Floors Pty Limited acknowledges the need to be environmentally responsive, and under the new management is developing a policy on Environmental Sustainable Development.  This is also consistent and compliant with the parent company of Tasman, Fletcher Building Limited.

Life Cycle Costing

The Tasman Access Floor range is manufactured from the highest quality materials. The access floor panels are a structural membrane with a twenty-five (25) year design life in accordance with its performance specification.

The General Office access floor known as Tascor / Unifix is an all steel panel with a lightweight cementitious core, supported by an aluminium pedestal head and all steel pedestal base. The assembly does not consist of any plastics, gaskets or PVC inserts.

As a structural, static construction membrane the Tascor Access Floor System does not require energy nor has any associated running costs.

Toxicity & Indoor Air Quality

The Tasman Tascor General Office access floor does not consist of any glues, laminations, PVC or toxic materials in its construction. The Heavy Grade Tascor floor for Comms and Computer room applications has an anti-static high pressure laminate finish bonded to the access floor panels.

Maintainability and Durability

The Tasman Access Floor system is robust and durable and has a twenty-five (25) year life design. The bare floor panel when installed (with Tasman OnGrid™ 60cm modular carpet tile coverings) requires no maintenance or cleaning. When office panels are removed and relayed during “office churn” the only requirement is that the Unifix “single locking” screw and its associated “star sleeve” are replaced all as per maintenance guidelines.

For the HPL (high pressure laminate) areas, such as computer room environments, cleaning of the anti-static HPL is as per the care and maintenance guidelines.

Waste Management

It is current Tasman practice to minimise waste on all project sites, and prior to that, in our factory. Tasman Access Floors have an active pallet-recycling program, which has been adopted for all appropriate Sydney construction sites. Tasman maximises panel utilisation on-site, by means of optimal layout datum’s and cut panel usage at perimeters and columns. A Waste Management Plan can be developed to project guidelines to suit the program or project specific requirements.

Recycled Content

Due to the specialist material specification of the panel, hardened all steel top sheet and drawn bottom pan, it is not possible for the Tascor panel to be manufactured from steel with recycled content. It is however, standard practice to recycle the access floor panels and under structure, if possible, during its life expectancy. The recycled component is virtually 100% subject to the access floor being removed without damage to the panels or under structure.

On a recent landmark Sydney project Tasman Access Floors installed approximately 60% of the access floor with new Tasman Tascor product, and the balance in ten (10) year old steel/cementitious product we had previously installed for a tenancy fit-out, the tenant now having moved on and Tasman were able to buy back the access floor and recycle. Our ability to provide recycled access floor on this project has assisted in its 5-star Green Building Rating.

At Tasman’s factory at Villawood we have a manufacturing line for cleaning recycled access floor panels.

Life Cycle Assessment

The Tasman Tascor system has been developed to be an integral part of a buildings internal structure giving it far more flexibility. It has a design life beyond twenty-five (25) years and in most cases can be fully recycled.

PVC

Tasman Access Floors confirm that we have designed out of the Tasman Tascor Access Floor system, PVC gaskets and other add on plastic components. Even our HPL (high pressure laminate) panels have had the PVC edge trim designed out of our product. Our Tasman integral trim is robust, functional and no PVC materials are required.
